Tadanori Yokoo
Tadanori Yokoo (b. 1936, Hyogo) is one of Japan’s most influential contemporary artists, known for his vibrant, surrealist-inflected work across painting, graphic design, and illustration.
Following a landmark solo exhibition at MoMA in 1972, he went on to exhibit at major institutions worldwide, including the Stedelijk Museum, Fondation Cartier, and the State Museum of Oriental Art. In Japan, he has held retrospectives at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art Kanazawa, and others.
In 2012, the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art established the Tadanori Yokoo Museum of Contemporary Art, followed by the Teshima Yokoo House in 2013. A recipient of numerous cultural honors, Yokoo remains a prolific force in Japan’s artistic landscape.
