This elegant teacup is crafted by the renowned Hirado Matsuyama Kiln, a workshop with over 400 years of tradition in producing refined porcelain. It represents the heritage of Mikawachi-yaki, known for its luminous white porcelain and intricate hand-painted blue designs.

Formed using Amakusa pottery stone, which contains minimal iron, the porcelain achieves exceptional whiteness and clarity. High-temperature firing enriches the color of the gosu blue pigment and gives the surface a silky smooth texture. A transparent glaze enhances contrast and brings out the precision of the brushwork. Every design is meticulously hand-painted using a demanding pre-firing technique that highlights the skill of master artisans.

Pattern:
Hirado Seikaiha – A traditional motif symbolizing peace and calm, Seikaiha (blue ocean waves) is rendered with rhythmic, delicate brushstrokes. The execution of this pattern, requiring the highest level of painterly control, is a signature of the Hirado Matsuyama Kiln.

Usage Precautions:
• Minor glaze irregularities may occur due to kiln placement and temperature variations—these are natural traits of handcrafted porcelain.

• Do not use if chipped or cracked, as it may be hazardous.

• Clean promptly, dry thoroughly, and store in a dry environment.

• Avoid metal scrubbers or abrasive cleansers to protect the surface finish.

What is Mikawachi-yaki?
Originating in Nagasaki during the Edo period, Mikawachi-yaki was developed in goyōgama kilns to create fine porcelain gifts for the ruling Hirado domain. With a focus on artistry over efficiency, these kilns produced highly detailed pieces sought after by nobility. Since the Meiji era, Mikawachi ware has remained a symbol of precision and elegance, valued by collectors in Japan and beyond.
