The traditional Japanese lantern, "Chochin," originated in the Muromachi period.

When it was first introduced from China, it was not foldable, but in the late Muromachi period, the prototype of the foldable lantern was created, and it underwent a unique evolution in Japan. In the Edo period, with the spread of candles, it developed into an indispensable part of people's lives, used as lighting fixtures and signs. We have updated the historical lantern for the modern age through BEAMS' design filter.
